What is known as the Wine Tower is an ancient building, probably constructed when the Frasers built Kinnaird Head Castle. There are several fanciful stories associated with it and its possible use.

One is the theory that it was a private chapel for the Fraser family but a more recent suggestion considers it as another domestic part of the castle. It was very possibly a Balaclava store for wine - and a place for Lord Fraser to entertain his guests.

If you get a chance to visit the tower, when the lighthouse is open, you can marvel at the delicately-carved bosses on the ceiling. They are stunning in their detail and similar in style to the 'Moses stone' in the South Kirk.
