The Dalrymple Hall was built in 1881 and is one of the Broch's landmark buildings.

It was the time when the townsfolk were increasingly prosperous and the railway was bringing many visitors here. The last remaining station building is just along the road, behind the South Kirk, your next stop.

Money left by Captain John Dalrymple helped fund what was then called the Café Hall. But it also had a dining room, newsroom, library, museum, school of art, recreation room, public hall and baths. And the local court used the place once a month. You could spend all day here eating, learning, dancing, swimming, painting, listening to concerts and even watching the law take its course with citizens of lesser repute.

It's now used mainly as a community theatre venue.
