The Museum of Scottish Lighthouses is the perfect start for your Footsteps through Fraserburgh. The Museum is here because the Kinnaird Head light is a very important monument to lighthouse builders and keepers. You’ll hear about it when you reach Stop 2.

The Museum describes the vital role played by Scotland’s lighthouses. For over 200 years, they have helped sailors to navigate safely. You’ll enjoy seeing the national collection of lenses that are known as optics. Most were removed from lighthouses when they were automated and form the largest display of lenses in Europe.

Visit the museum to learn about the Northern Lighthouse Board that began its work in 1786. Find out about the engineers who designed and built the structures and created the complex lenses. Savour the stories of lighthouse keepers and their lonely lives, often isolated on storm-torn islands.
